Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss is an excellent read, and one that I highly recommend.
Lynne Truss, a British journalist, presents herself as a "stickler" for perfect punctuation with humorous and telling examples of how important punctuation is. But it goes beyond punctuation. Truss lays down an ideal about how writing itself is at stake, as more and more novices take to the computer and proliferate poor grammer, syntax, and punctuation.
I have always marvelled how a good book can captivate and bring you into a world, and to think that something as simple as punctuation could be so fun to read. The last two chapters were, for me, the most striking and the entire book has inspired me to be a better writer (and learn how to use that elusive semi-colon!).
