The adventure for today was going to see "The Property." Grandpa and Grandma Ott purchased two lots near where we were staying to build a cabin (or something). We all packed into our cars and drove down the dirt roads to the lot. The two acres are situated next to the road on a hill. A short hike up an old cow trail brought us to the center of the lot--the most level place on the property--where mom told us where they would build the cabin.
The plan was to come to the property and do some service project--clean up dead wood, remove plants, and weed. We didn't do much weed or plant removal since the entire two acres was covered in dense ground cover and weeds (e.g., a futile effort). We did, however, have loads of fun tipping dead trees over. In fact, pretty much everyone--except Jeff and the kids--joined in the fun and began tipping over old, dead trees. We dragged a few of these dead logs into a pile, but for the most part we had fun "tree tipping."
Everyone had some idea or other on what to do with the property. Jeff wants to create a nature preserve, Mom wants hiking trails and a small cabin, and some of the others want to build a larger "family" cabin. I guess the final decision rests with Mom who should do with the property what she wants. She has really been excited with the land and we all want to see her enjoy it.
I lost the first round of pool. And the second. I guess I'm no good. It's been fun, though, playing with everyone. I actually play pool pretty good, but I'm having more fun hitting the balls and I lose by hitting the 8-ball into a pocket before its time.
Melissa paired up with her sister Kristen to play Rook. They actually made it to the semi-finals and lost with some dignity. Mom and Dad said they were the funnest people to play (e.g. "big and dramatic"). No dull moments. The last game they played with Mom and Dad was amazing. Melissa's team was trailing by hundreds of points and in the last hand Melissa set 70 points. In a dramatic turn, Melissa's team won. Cheers left the table (and some screams). It was great.
