The teaser trailer for the new Superman movie looks amazing. I’m hopeful the movie won’t be a disappointment. Hollywood seems to be on a remake rampage right now with not many quality “new” films in the works. Some classics beg not to be redone, but perhaps the new twist on Superman will work. However, I, for one, am excited about the upcoming King Kong remake by director Peter Jackson…
Update: I was just reviewing some reviews on the new Pride and Prejudice movie by Keira Knightley and this one jolted me:
Is it as good as the superb BBC miniseries of 1995 starring Jennifer Ehle as Lizzy and Colin Firth as Darcy? How the hell would I know? Do you think I watched it? Get serious. Life’s way too short for five hours in front of the tube watching ponces and twits flounce and scrape and talk tony Brit. However, many learned people say it is not as good, and that would therefore become my official position.

What struck me was this: “Is it as good as the superb BBC miniseries…? How…would I know? Do you think I watched it?” Melissa and I have wondered for a while since the new movie came out why it was garnishing such rave reviews. We are ardent fans of the BBC version and ever since the trailers for the new show came out we were already disappointed. This review confirms our skepticism: new audiences who’ve seen the new movie and love it probably haven’t seen the excellent BBC adaptation.
The BBC Adaptation is long, which is one of the reasons it is so good. I really don’t want to pay money to see a movie that may not live up to already high expecations. Perhaps when it comes out on DVD we’ll rent it and see.
