Pistol Qualification

by Derek—2005.11.22 @ 1943

I had an opportunity to go down to Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia to take some photographs during a 9mm pistol qualification event. The mood was a bit dreary: overcast, cold, and wet. Dressed in body armor and and kevlar, I took position on the line with those qualifying and took pictures in the drizzly rain.

The rain and cold was not enough to dampen the spirits of those involved, except for a few cold, wet hands. After most of the soldiers had qualified, they had some extra ammunition that needed to be used so they asked if anyone wanted to shoot again. I volunteered. The pistol action was a little stiff in the rain and my hands were also numb from the cold, but the qualification wasn’t difficult at all. I scored 270/300 and received the “Expert Marksman” badge. I missed three targets (each worth 10 points each) by just being lazy.
