Every now-and-again it’s a good idea to get a checkup, and iTunes is no exception. This time, Melissa played doctor and gave our music horde a thorough inspection. The end result included a few deletions, some genre consolidations, and some fill-in-the-blank research.
I thought it would be interesting to show some statistics from this last operation.
iTunes Version: 6.0.1 (3)
Total Songs: 3,969
Total Time: 11 days
File Space: 14.01 GB
Total Movies: 7
Movie File Size: 640.5 MB
Total Movie Time: 2.1 Hours

According to our data, we have a lot of Religious music. I guess that says something about our family. Other top picks would be Classical, Children’s Music, and Children’s Music. The children’s category might even be larger, but we’ve decided not to add all of our children music collection at this time.

It shouldn’t be any wonder that the Dramatization category takes up the most time. We have a lot of cool sound casts from the BBC, including the entire Lord of the Rings broadcast.

What was really interesting to me was that while Dramatization took up the most time, it wasn’t the largest in file size. For some reason, our classical music was much larger. I’ll have to double-check to see if everything is in the AAC format, or if some of our classical music is in larger MP3 format. Then, the Rock category is also quite large in size, although it is very small in both number of songs and total time. Curious, isn’t it.
